We work primarily in Mahogany, cedar and redwood. With the closing of many American forests to harvesting, the abundance of native, old-growth lumber, with its characteristic resistance to rot, decay, and bug infestation became scarce and mostly non-existent. Lumber yards had to look elsewhere for their products and the quality of lumber took a real hit. No longer were the woods we know and love easily available and the quality was terrible, they looked bad and performed worse! We found a high quality wood that we work with now. It is clear, dry, has good grain definition and finishes well. But the most important find of this wood was it’s resistance to rot, decay and bug infestation but that it holds up extremely well. When we finish the wood with a stain or natural wood tinting and follow that with two coats of Teak/Tung oil it becomes almost indestructible.
